Sharing seeds with our community
East Las Vegas Seed Share offers free seeds to our community. We hope that at the end of the season seeds saved from those plants can be brought back to us so that we can continue to share them. We want to encourage gardening and to pass on the knowledge of seed starting and seed saving to help facilitate a more healthy and sustainable community. We want to grow a community of sharing and giving, promote food justice, and protect seed diversity.
Grow, save, and share seeds.
Why should we save seeds?
- Saved seeds from your garden become more resilient and better adapted to our climate.
- Letting your veggies flower and go to seed helps pollinators. The bees love it!
- You save money! Saving seeds means you don’t have to buy them for the next season.
- If you have an abundance of seed, you are able to share with your community. This creates a culture of sharing and giving.
- You can pass on the knowledge of seed saving! Once you figure out how easy seed saving is, you can teach others and help to preserve this ancient practice.
Basic Seed Saving Guidelines
- Do not save seeds from plants labeled as hybrids, F1, F, or PVP.
- Label what you are planting and also your garden packets.
- Plan your garden to reduce cross-pollination, some varieties cross and your saved seeds will not be true to type.
- Save seeds from the healthiest plants.
- Make sure seeds are dried thoroughly before storing. Store them in a cool, dry place.
We need donations!
We are a self funded group and love sharing seeds with as many people as we can. We can not do this alone! Do you have any seeds that you saved from your garden? Or do you have purchased seeds that you don’t plan on sowing? We would love your seed donations! Please email us or contact us on Instagram. We also need blank seed packets and thermal printer labels. Check out our Amazon wishlist. We are grateful for any and all donations.

Plant the seeds
Plant your seeds in well amended soil and make sure to water regularly. Some seeds will germinate in as little as 7 days, others can take up to 30 days or more.
02
Harvest your veggies
Eating from your garden is a wonderful experience. Fresh, organic, homegrown veggies are so much better than store bought.
03
Share with your community
Share your harvest with your family, friends, and neighbors!
04
Save seeds and return to the seed share
Let some of your plants go to seed. Save seeds for yourself to plant again and if you have extra please return some to the seed share so we can offer them to the community.
